It's time for Blairsville and Union County residents to roll up their sleeves and get down to work! The Downtown Development Authority of Blairsville is holding a downtown
revitalization work plan meeting on Monday, June 12, 7pm, in the
Brackett Community Room
at United Community Bank. Local officials, civic leaders, revitalization
committees, downtown
property owners, and other community members dedicated to the goal of
revitalizing the
downtown are encouraged to attend and participate.
Representatives from the Georgia Department of Community Affairs and the
Fanning
Institute of the University of Georgia will facilitate this meeting. The
purpose of the meeting is
to update the priorities voiced at the Town Meeting in September of 2005
and to develop a
detailed work plan of committee projects, action steps, timelines, and
funding sources.
The City of Blairsville is in the start-up phase of the Better Hometown
Program, a self help
community development program administered by the State of Georgia. Not
just a
"beautification project," the Better Hometown Program is designed to
generate "economic
development through downtown revitalization, heritage preservation, and
restoring a sense of
place." Historic and cultural preservation are the foundation of the
program; improving the local
economy and quality of life are the outcomes.
This revitalization effort requires dedicated participants willing to do
the hard work
necessary to produce long-lasting benefits for our community. Please
join us for this meeting,
offer your input, and sign up for a committee to implement the target
projects.
