Georgia Highlanders to Perform at Old Courthouse

A new group of seasoned musicians, the Georgia Highlanders, will perform at The Old Courthouse on the Square in Blairsville at 7:00 pm on Friday, June 24. All of the band members live in the north Georgia-North Carolina area.

Brandon Davenport lives in Hayesville with his wife Stephanie. Brandon taught himself how to play guitar while he was going through a series of eye operations.

Ken Ensley from Blairsville plays several instruments, but plays mandolin with the Georgia Highlanders. Ken has played with many bands including James Monroe and the Collins Brothers.

Gary Welborn has been playing guitar since age of eight, and started playing banjo at age twelve. At fourteen he started playing with his first band.

Zack Cash, who lives in Cleveland, Georgia, is another person who plays many instruments. He settled on playing mainly the bass about ten years ago.

The Georgia Highlanders are considered to be a traditional bluegrass band. They have a website, Georgia highlanders. com. There, one can see their complete biographies, hear samples of their music, and see their performance schedule.

The summer concerts at The Old Courthouse on the Square are presented by the Union County Historical Society as a public service and to keep alive the tradition of music in The Old Courthouse. There is no admission charge; the musicians donate their time and talents. Voluntary donations to the maintenance fund are always welcomed and appreciated.
