Buzzard Mountain Boys in Concert

The Buzzard Mountain Boys will entertain at The Old Courthouse on the Square in Blairsville on Friday night, May 27, at 7:00 p.m.

Joe Bob Matteson and Jim Bob White are The Buzzard Mountain Boys. These two guys play an amusing selection of Bother Duet, Bluegrass and Old-Time music, interspersed with enough corny humor to warm your heart and take you back to the days of the traveling minstrels! Both musicians are residents of Lumpkin County and are fixtures in the North Georgia traditional music community and heavily involved in the promotion of Appalachian Music. Their recent performances include the main-stage at the 13th Annual Bear on the Square Festival in Dahlonega, GA; the Melting Point in Athens, GA; the Brasstown Concert Series in Brasstown, NC; the Murphy, NC, Heritage Festival; the John C. Campbell Folk School Fall Festival; the Gilmer County Arts and Heritage Association concert series in Ellijay, GA; and the “Live and Local” inaugural performance at the Crimson Moon Café in Dahlonega. A recent highlight was their hosting and performing on the Mountain Music and Medicine Show in Dahlonega, GA, a live radio performance. Upcoming events include several State Park concert appearances, the Georgia Wine Country Festival, and Enchanted Nights on the Square in Hiawassee, GA.

Joe is an accomplished mandolin, guitar and tenor-banjo player. His Monroe style mandolin breaks and fiery banjo strumming will set your toes to tapping. He has played in several bluegrass, old-time and gospel ensembles through the years. Jim plays a lively fiddle, old-time tenor guitar and sets the rhythm with his solid six-string guitar work. Brother duet harmony is the Buzzard Mountain Boys’ forte and takes you back to the roots of bluegrass and rockabilly. A sprinkling of good-natured humor peppers their performances.

Jim chairs the Bear on the Square Mountain Festival, is a charter board member of Georgia Pick and Bow Traditional Music School Program, an advisory board member of the Appalachian Studies Center of NGCSU, the on-site administrator of the weekly Dahlonega Appalachian Jam and a Vice President of the Southeastern Bluegrass Association. Joe has served many years as the VP of the Bear on the Square Mountain Festival and is the co-producer of Dahlonega's own Mountain Music and Medicine Show, which recently began regular airing on Georgia Public Radio.

There is no admission charge to the concerts presented by the Union County Historical Society. The musicians donate their time and talents. Voluntary contributions to the maintenance fund are always welcomed and appreciated.
