I noticed in the paper the fireworks are going to be on July 3rd. Does anyone know why instead of the 4th?

The Blairsville-Union County Chamber of Commerce organizes the fireworks each year with funds contributed by sponsors for the event. This year the area businesses are all feeling the effects of the down economy and weren't able to contribute as much for this fantastic annual fireworks display. The Chamber was able to reduce the cost of the fireworks by holding them on the first night of the Fourth of July weekend instead, which turns out to be July 3rd.

I think it's a great opportunity to expand the Fourth of July fun. You can watch the fireworks out at Meeks Park on the Friday night, watch the boat parade on Lake Nottely Saturday Morning, attend the Lions' Club Old Fashioned Games at Meeks Park Saturday afternoon, then take in Brasstown Valley Resort's very first fireworks show Saturday evening while attending their 4th annual Star Spangled Spectacular Fourth of July Celebration.

It looks like it'll be another fantastic holiday weekend in the beautiful North Georgia mountains!
