For you late-to-bed folks or you really early risers, the Perseid meteor shower is supposed to peak Tuesday early morning, from 2:00am until dawn.

From NASA's site:
"The time to look is during the dark hours before dawn on Tuesday, August 12th," says Bill Cooke of NASA's Meteoroid Environment Office at the Marshall Space Flight Center. "There should be plenty of meteors--perhaps one or two every minute."

Here's a link to help you see which direction to look: http://science.nasa.gov/headlines/y2008/22jul_perseiddawn.htm

I got up early this morning to go out and watch the meteor shower and was rewarded with a nice clear view of many bright meteors. Dawn encroached swiftly, as did a high layer of wispy clouds, so the window of time for viewing that I had was relatively short.

I almost went out last night instead, but I was afraid I'd fall asleep out there waiting for the meteors. They come in spurts, and then there's a period of time where you don't see any and it's just you, the sky, and your thoughts.

The shower is still going on, so you've got more nights to try an catch it if you like that kind of thing. Last night/this morning was the peak but there will still be plenty more for viewing over the next several nights.

Yahoo had a good article from Space.com about it also. Here's the link: http://news.yahoo.com/s/space/20080811/sc_space/perseidmeteorshowerpeakstuesdaymorning
